1) Order your custom moulded earphone sleeves

2) We will then send you a branded MP3 Company Pre-Paid "custom moulded earphone sleeves" voucher

3) Then take your pre-paid voucher to your nearest audiologist at a time that is convenient for you. You may need to book an appointment, to find your nearest audiologist and their contact details please see the next section below

4) Your local audiologist will then take impressions of your ears (the cost of taking the impressions is included in the voucher), this process will take approximately 5-10 minutes. The process that is used is very similar to that used when making hearing aids, your audiologist will place a small piece of foam into your ear canal to prevent any excess impression gel going into your ear. They will then inject into the outer part of your ear canal the soft impression gel. Once set, the impression along with the foam will gently be removed

5) Complete the voucher with your personal details, the make / model of earphones that you have and the colour of the sleeves that you require

6) The audiologist will then send your impressions and your pre-paid voucher back to our lab

7) Your custom moulded earphone sleeves will then be manufactured and shipped back to you in your chosen colour and for the earphones that you have specified. This process will take between 14 - 28 days

What he has said so far is that he has had a pair of the custom moulds (motorbike sleeves with filter) for over 4 years, the fit is perfect everytime with no fuss and the sound isolation is far greater than that of any foam tip!

Simply outstanding! The title at the top of this page says "One of the most exciting products at The MP3 Company for 2009" and now that they have arrived we stand by this statement! In essence, after using the custom moulds for less than 10 minutes I felt like Shure had secretly launched the SE640 or something similar overnight with quadruple drivers - Amazing : Full review below

Impression Taking

The overall process took less than 10 minutes. After my ears were checked by the audiologist a small piece of foam with a string pull-cord was inserted into both of my ears. Impression material was then used to fill the ear canal and outer ear, after about 5 minutes the impressions were set and then gently removed using the string pull-cord. This process was completely painless – You won’t be able to hear too much while the impression material sets, which is a strange sensation, although not being able to hear anything for 5 minutes in our offices was quite a pleasure! Impressions were then off to the lab…

and then 10 Days later…

How did they fit?

The custom moulds are not only moulded to the shape of the ear canal, they are also moulded to the shape of the outer ear and sculptured to the shape of the earphone. In terms of the custom sleeves I have for my Shure SE530 they perfectly fit the curves of the earphone, keep the earphone at the right angle as before with the foams and also keep the earphone close to the ear! The biggest and most significant difference is that the sound leaves the earphone sleeve directly into the ear canal and at the perfect angle, unlike the foams where the sound leaves the earphone at the angle where you find the best seal, which can sometimes mean that the foam has squashed and caused the foam opening to close up.

In terms of how they fitted my ears – No fuss, very easy to get the perfect seal and fit every time. Unlike the foams, you don’t need to squash, push, twist, hold; they only need to be placed in the same position each time you use your earphones! I guess this is why the custom sleeves are really a must now for any audiophile looking for the best of the best…

Was there any sound or volume improvement?

Volume improvement was significant, straight away I was able to play tracks on my normal player at half volume and experience the same volume level as with the foams at nearly full volume. This must have been in my case that although I was using the right size foam previously to form the best and most comfortable seal, the sound was either not going directly down the ear canal at the correct angle (as is the case now with the custom sleeves) or the foams were closing the hole and dampening the volume. So, not only did the volume improve I am also seeing the players battery last much longer than normal!

In terms of the sound quality this also improved across the whole sound range. When I first used my Shure SE530s over 2 years ago I couldn’t believe the difference these made to my enjoyment of music, the sound is crystal clear and makes each track come alive, the custom moulded earphone sleeves take that enjoyment 1 step further. I recently used them on a 4 hour plane journey (well 8 hours if you count coming back), absolutely perfect again, the best sound isolation I have ever experienced and from a comfort point of view, after a few minutes you forget that they are there, didn’t take them out for the entire flight, a few DVDs and music tracks later, no ear fatigue!
